The Delicious Monster

Monstera Deliciosa is a large-leafed hardy creeper native to Central America that can tolerate a variety of conditions preferring to begin life as a shaded understorey plant and thriving outdoors in temperatures from 20-30°C.

Avoid the prickly tongue feeling when eating unripe fruit (caused by crystals of calcium oxalate) by waiting a year for the fruit to ripen. When the ‘scales’ fall away from the fruit you will be able to comfortably eat this delicious banana – pineapple tasting fruit.

Don’t expect an abundance of fruit with this one though, and it takes a year for the fruit to ripen before you can comfortably eat it. But once they are ready it is well worth the wait!

This video shows when and how to eat the fruit of the Monstera Deliciosa or Fruit Salad Plant.
